Tutankhamun Exhibition

A sand sculpture was built in 2002 for the Tutankhamun Exhibition in Dorchester by sand sculptor Mark. The Tutankhamun Exhibition is made up of exhibits which have been skillfully crafted to replicate those of the Treasures of Tutankhamun Exhibition which was shown at the British Museum back in 1972. The Egyptian Government wanted to preserve the exhibits from the Treasures exhibition, which is why the originals were sent back to their home in Egypt, and replicas such as Mark’s sand sculpture were made as identical as possible to the original exhibits. Mark built the sand sculpture on Weymouth Beach with 15-20 tons of Weymouth sand. The exhibit was then transported to the exhibition in Dorchester.
